Introduction

D.Gray-man is a shounen manga series by Hoshino Katsura, serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump. The enthusiasm of its readers had TMS Entertainment adaptated it into an anime, which has been airing since early October 2006. The manga is already liscensed by Viz media, while the anime have just recently been liscensed by FUNimation.

The series takes place in the 19th century, and basically tells about an unending war between the Black Order (Kuro no Kyoudan) and the Millenium Earl (Sennen Hakushaku).The Millenium Earl and his minions aim to bring destruction to the world, with an army that consists of Akuma – weapons created from souls and body of humans with tragedy and despair. The Order's mission, with the help of Exorcists is to prevent that from happening.

These Exorcists are gifted with the ability to use Innocence, a divine substance created in ages past to combat the Earl and his minions. Fragments of Innocence were scattered around the world at the end of The Great Flood. Once an Innocence fragment is found to be compatible to a particular user, it can become a weapon or tool for the user.

the storyline

Our main protagonist is Allen Walker, an exorcist who possesses a Parasitic-type Innocence. This Innocence makes him have a flawed left arm, with a cross embedded in the back of his hand. He was adopted by Mana Walker, a travelling performer. Allen loved Mana so much that he tried to revive him (with the so-called help from The Millenium Earl) after the man had faced death. However, Mana's soul was enraged as soon as Allen signed the contract. He cursed Allen for turning him into an Akuma, by scarring Allen's left eye and turning his formerly brown-colored hair into white. That was the first time his Innocence activated, and exorcised the akuma–Mana.

Allen was then found by a General from the Black Order, Cross Marian. He gave him lectures to be an exorcist and told him to go to the Black Order's headquarters. In the Black Order, he met other exorcists, finders, and supporters. Some of the exorcists he met are Kanda Yuu, Lenalee Lee, and Hevlaska. And our hero's adventure began...!
