The Mini Fashion

Annoyed by Lenalee's habit of wearing mini stuffs everywhere? Well, to be honest, I don't like girls who do that in real life. But I don't really mind the ones in animanga, because they're fictional. Most of times, I don't. And now, let's face it:

Ladies and gentlemen, D.Gray-man is a shounen manga. Listen well, girls. Shounen manga are originally targetted for boys, because the word shounen itself means young boys. Therefore it's just normal that mangas that belong to this genre have a lot of elements to attract the boys.

Shounen manga is typically characterized by high-action, often humorous plots featuring male protagonists. The camaraderie between boys or men on sports teams, fighting squads and the like is often emphasized. Attractive female characters with exaggerated features (fan services) are also common, but are not a requirement. — Wikipedia

However, in fact, shounen mangas are not off-limit to girls. Girls also read those. *coughs* Can't you tell?! D: But anyway, trust me, fanservices are not something strange in shounen mangas. Some shounen mangas display exaggerated big boobs (see: Bleach), bath scenes revealing the oh-so-obvious (see: Air Gear), and panty shots... sometimes even so tight that you can see the curve of the girls, if you know what I mean. Honestly, they are sort of annoying, but yes, it is shounen, mind you. Girls, you should be grateful enough that Hoshino doesn't do those. Why should you be so pissed at some chick wearing just-a-little sexy stuffs then?

As far as I can recall, these are the so-called (female) fanservices in D.Gray-man:

That's pretty much all of it. If you call miniskirts and hotpants as fanservices, of course Lenalee and Eliade are listed there, too. Remember, though: even shoujo mangas like Sailor Moon have the heroines dressed in miniskirts. I think miniskirt isn't a strange fashion in manga nowadays.

Also, if you also wear miniskirts or hotpants, then I suppose you're mature enough to not hate Lenalee. :)

Trivia

What's actually amusing about the whole "mini" fashion in D.Gray-man is that miniskirt was first developed in 1965, and hotpants were in the1970s. And D.Gray-man's setting is supposed to be waaaaay before the 20th century. Awesomeness? It seems that Komui's invention is really precious. And obviously, duh, this can't be a reason for you to hate Lenalee, that's just too silly. Let's just say that Hoshino-sensei is being... cute. XD
